Scent and ingredients matter

So does what happens after the candle burns out.

  • Owner pouring melted wax into candle jars

Our refill initiative started by listening to customers. At the famers market, I kept hearing the same thing: "I don't want to throw this jar away, can you reuse it?" I heard it enough times to know this mattered to more than just me. In 2022, I launched a jar collection program, but it only reached people who could make it to the market and I knew we couldn't maintain it long term. So, I went back to the drawing board and found a better solution. We launched drop-in refills in 2023 and within the first six months, we sold 392 refills. It was amazing to see what happens when a community comes together around something that matters.

Since launching refills in 2023:

  • People at an outdoor event with a booth selling Violas candles.

    100% of loyal customers

    choose to refill

  • Five empty candle jars on a wooden tabletop

    2,799 jars + counting

    diverted from landfills

  • piggy bank with money stuffed inside the top

    26% savings on average
